THE ARK

Genesis 6:13, 14, 22

God gave Noah very precise instructions to build a boat that would hold him and his family, plus animals of every kind. He was instructed to build the boat a certain length, height, width and use a specific kind of wood called Gopher. He was obedient in the instruction that God gave him. As a result, he and his seven family members were saved (Hebrews 11:7)

The Bible says Noah was moved with fear and prepared an Ark for the saving of his house. The Ark is symbolic to Jesus Christ. As Christians, we must be willing to be laborers building up Christ in our own lives and serving others, in preparation for his coming. By following Christ’s precise instructions, he will save us from vast destruction as he did Noah and his family

Ephesians 2:10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

For we are his workmanship:  I am no longer my own but I belong to the Lord Jesus Christ.  There is no better person in this world to belong to than the son of God.  The one who died for my sins.  Workmanship in this verse means that which is affected, made, or produced.  We are made in his image and in his likeness.

Created in Christ Jesus unto good works:  As a new creation in Christ Jesus, we are created to good works which is the fruit of our new creation.  A tree is always known by its fruit.  An apple tree bears apples and a peach tree bares peaches.  Thus we should bare the fruit of the spirit which is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance.

Which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them:  God has ordained these works for us and us for these works.

Sept 8, 2008                CLEAVE TO THAT WHICH IS GOOD

Romans 12:9… Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.

Abhor in the Webster’s dictionary means, to dislike intensely.  To dislike something means, to disapprove of.  But intensely means, extreme in strength, effect, or degree.  In this scripture Paul tells us to abhor evil; to strongly disapprove of evil.

Cleave to that which is good. Cleave or cling means, to hold fast to; to grasp or stick; to hold on and resist emotional separation

Is it a coincidence that Paul put these two instructions together?  Probably not, because he knew in the last days perilous times shall come.

In these dark times, Satan has increased his hold on people making it more difficult to shun every appearance of evil.

But, I am reminded of another dark time in the Bible.  The book of Ruth begins by telling us… “Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled.”  The book of Ruth was taking place during the time of the judges.  And we know that in the time of judges; there was no king of Israel, but every man did that which was right in his own eyes according to Judges 17:6.  Even though it was a dark time in Israel, there was a bright spot that came out of that time and it was Ruth

She had just lost her husband and was in great despair.  Ruth’s mother in law Naomi had lost everything she had after moving from Bethlehem to Moab including her husband and her two sons.  She was left with her two daughters in law, Ruth and Orpah.

Naomi then decides to go back to Bethlehem and she instructed Ruth and Orpah to stay back.  The Bible then says that Orpah kissed her mother in law but Ruth clave unto her.  Ruth tells Naomi, entreat me not to leave thee for whither thou goest, I will go; your people will be my people and your God my God.  Her decision to follow Naomi and leave her kindred and her land behind put her in a place where she found favor with Boaz, a near kinsman who married her and was in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.  Because Ruth clung to that which was good, the Lord blessed her mightily.

These scriptures reflect the fact that good things happen to us when we cleave to that which is good.

Hold fast to Christ Jesus, grasp him and his goodness and resist separation from him because in him lies COMPLETE VICTORY!

God Bless.

August 29 -2008                     A LIVING SACRIFICE

In the Old Testament, people gave offerings to the Lord, such as peace offerings, sin offerings, guilt offerings and burnt offerings.  The animal that was usually chosen for a burnt offering was a young bull, lamb, goat, or a turtledove.  The type of sacrifice that was chosen usually depended on the person’s financial ability.  When the animal was sacrificed the person bringing the animal was to lay their hand upon it and then kill it to signify that the animal was taking the place of the person.  Then all the parts were separated and placed upon an alter by the priest and the entire animal was burned except the hide of the animal.

We no longer have to bring sacrifices and offerings before the Lord this way.  Jesus Christ died as the ultimate sacrifice for sin.  Know this, does not does not mean that we as Christians no longer have to bring a sacrifice before the Lord, we just do it in a different way.  Paul tells us in Romans 12:1 to present our bodies a living sacrifice.  This should be a daily activity and not just on special occasions.  He said in verse 2… be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…  Our mind is what tells our bodies what to do.  In order to move my hand, my mind sends signals to it and it tells it what to do.  When our minds are centered on Christ, then we can become Christ like and through the power of the Holy Ghost, we CAN PRESENT OURSELVES A LIVING SACRIFICE FOR THE LORD JESUS CHRIST.
